Sian Roberts Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we must share the news of the passing of our beloved Head Coach, Sian Roberts. Sian’s journey, a remarkable testament to dedication, passion, and a profound love for netball came to a peaceful end in her sleep. Her legacy, however, will continue to thrive within the Oswestry Junior Netball Club and the countless lives she touched over the past 25 years. Oswestry Junior Netball Club owes its existence to Sian Roberts and Jo Jones, who co-founded the club around a quarter-century ago. Since its inception, this organization has been a cornerstone of the Oswestry community, providing training and competitive opportunities for girls between the ages of 6 and 16 at the Oswestry Leisure Centre. Sian and Jo’s vision for this club was to instill a passion for netball in young girls, nurturing a lifelong skill that would not only promote physical fitness but also foster friendships that would last a lifetime.
Each season, over 100 girls embark on a journey within the Oswestry Junior Netball Club, guided by the spirit and dedication of Sian and Jo. Their love for the sport and commitment to youth development have been unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on every player who had the privilege of passing through the club’s ranks. Sian and Jo’s influence extended far beyond the confines of the club. Many of their former players have gone on to excel in netball at college and university levels. Some have even become integral parts of teams in the Oswestry Adult League and beyond. Their dedication to the sport inspired generations of young athletes to reach their full potential, both on and off the court. Moreover, Sian and Jo’s passion for netball was contagious. They sparked a chain reaction, with former OJNC players returning to the club as coaches, eager to pass on the knowledge and values they had learned. Parents of OJNC players, too, eagerly embraced the opportunity to become certified coaches,
volunteering their time and expertise to help the Oswestry Junior Netball Club thrive. Their collective efforts have not only solidified the club’s status as a family but also elevated it to new heights, year after year. Sian Roberts’ journey may have come to a close, but her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the Oswestry Junior Netball Club that she helped build. Her spirit, dedication, and love for the sport continue to inspire countless young athletes. The club remains a testament to the power of community, mentorship, and the enduring impact that passionate individuals like Sian can have on the lives of those they touch. As we mourn the loss of our Head Coach, let us also celebrate the profound influence she had on Oswestry Junior Netball Club and the enduring legacy that will continue to shape the lives of generations to come.
