Mr. Hendrix, an esteemed insurance agent and dedicated member of Whorton Springs Baptist Church, left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. This article pays tribute to his life, career, and the lasting impact he had on his family, friends, and community. Orvil E. Hendrix was born on May 21, 1941, in Smithville, Tennessee, to his parents, the late Burley and Ruby Kilgore Hendrix. Raised in a close-knit family, Orvil was preceded in death by his two brothers, John Hendrix and Erie Hendrix. His roots in the community ran deep, shaping the compassionate and community-oriented individual he would become.

Orvil dedicated a significant portion of his life to the insurance industry, serving as an insurance agent with a commitment to helping others protect what mattered most. His professionalism and dedication earned him the respect of his peers and the trust of his clients. Colleagues remember him not only for his business acumen but also for his warmth and genuine concern for the well-being of those around him. A devout member of Whorton Springs Baptist Church, Orvil found solace and purpose in his faith. Orvil was a loving husband to his wife of 62 years, Wanda Cripps Hendrix, and a devoted father to his two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip (Holly) Hendrix and Bradley (Lori) Hendrix. The family-oriented man took immense pride in his six grandchildren: Jailyn Bolding, Holden Hendrix, Grayson Hendrix, Jacob Hendrix, Jon Hendrix, and Emmaline Hendrix, all of Dowelltown. Surrounded by siblings, Orvil shared strong bonds with his sister, Mildred Suffridge of Smithville, and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Doyle (Faye) Hendrix of Alexandria, Tucker (Carol) Hendrix of Smithville, Ricky (Kathy) Hendrix of Dowelltown, and Farron (Gayla) Hendrix of Smithville. His sister-in-law, Faye West, was also an integral part of his extended family.

In honor of Orvil’s life, a graveside service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 2 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. The service will be officiated by Bro. Larry Cripps, reflecting Orvil’s strong connection to his faith and community. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Whorton Springs Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Orvil. This serves as a fitting tribute to a man who found purpose and fulfillment in contributing to the well-being of others and nurturing the spiritual life of his community. Orvil E.
