Jim Irving Obituary, Death – After a long illness, Dr. James K. “Doc” Irving died peacefully at The Villa at Winston Court in Marshall, Michigan on October 31, 2023. Jim was born January 4, 1946, in Escanaba, Michigan to Wallace and Mabel (Villemure) Irving. He graduated from Escanaba Area Public Schools’ Holy Name High School in 1964. Before earning his DVM at Michigan State University, Jim attended Bay de Noc Community College for one year.
After graduating from MSU in 1969, he worked at Marshall Veterinary Hospital for 14 years until buying the Oakdale Clinic in Homer, Michigan, specializing in horses and large animals. He was a great horse vet, and horsemen from the area came to him. Doc spent countless hours helping sick animals on farm calls due to his dedication.
Jim loved his children, Steven (Tonya) Irving of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Kevin Irving of Marshall, Michigan; grandchildren, Hailey and William; and step-grandchildren, Brandon Hall, Alex Auman, Taylor Auman, and Matthew Auman. Sister Carol Roberts of Milwaukee and Judy (Howard) Haulotte of Gladstone, Michigan, survive him.
The mother of his children Karen Irving, brother-in-law Donald Roberts, and niece Kim Roberts predeceased Jim. Skradski Family Funeral Homes will assist with late burial at Escanaba Township Cemetery. The family thanks the Villa and Hospice staff that cared for him. Most importantly, we wish to thank Cindy and Curt Francisco of Burlington, Michigan for their love, kindness, friendship, and support for years.
