Ivan Burkill Obituary, Death- Captain Ivan Burkill died peacefully on the afternoon of November 16, 2023, and it is with great sadness that we must inform you of his passing. The love of his life, Elisen, was all around him. Ivan was a devoted family man and father, as well as a respected member of his neighborhood; his legacy will be remembered fondly by those who knew and loved him for many years to come. Ivan’s career of duty began when, at age 16, he joined the Denman Volunteer Fire Brigade.
His dedication and natural leadership skills propelled him quickly through the ranks, and by 1983 he was Denman’s first full-time paid fireman, holding the position of Captain. Until his medical retirement in 2014, Ivan was able to lead his teams over several challenges. Throughout it all, he stayed true to his principles. Ivan was the model patriarch, and his eldest son Amon followed in his footsteps. Amon is honored to carry on the Burkill name in the firefighting community in his duty as Captain, a position he has held for the past year.
Ivan was a pioneer member of the Denman Motorcycle Club in addition to his dedication to the fire department. Throughout his years with the club, he inspired new riders with his skill and enthusiasm on dirt bikes. His influence grew even further when he established Denman Engineering, a company that has long served the neighborhood and been a reliable patron of local athletic teams and the fire department. When it came to mechanical engineering, he was way out in front.
Ivan Burkill left a substantial legacy, having had an influence on the lives of everyone who had the good fortune to meet, work with, or stand by him. The lives of the people he inspired and aided were forever changed as a result of his efforts, and his legacy lives on in their memories. As we say our final goodbyes to Captain Ivan Burkill, may we always keep in mind the indomitable spirit, unyielding dedication, and boundless kindness that defined his life. I hope he is at peace now, and that his legacy will inspire and guide future generations.
