Inspector in Charge Frankie Hayes was a devoted police officer who risked his life to keep the people he cared about safe. As he dealt with a crisis involving a barricaded person who constituted a serious threat to neighbors, fellow officers, and even within his own home on August 16, 2023, he displayed extraordinary courage and resilience.
Chief Hayes spent two anxious hours in negotiations with the armed suspect before successfully gaining the suspect’s quiet surrender. When Chief Hayes was taken to the hospital, he suffered a double heart attack, revealing the event’s emotional and physical toll. Despite the prompt medical assistance and following surgery, Chief Frank Hayes, Jr. succumbed to his injuries on August 30, 2023.
