David Gould Obituary, Death- On November 14, 2023, the Yukon lost a dear friend and neighbor when David Gould passed away. His death came at the age of 77. We break the news of his departure to you with deep sorrow. David died calmly at the home he lived with his family on Bates Crescent in Riverdale, which was the site of a terrible explosion. A huge explosion woke David up from his slumber in his Whitehorse neighborhood. A house in the area was the source of the noise.
The Yukon Coroner’s Service concluded that David Gould “died as a result of the damage caused to his home” during the incident that occurred early that morning. The Yukon Fire Department has given us this data. The tremendous explosion heard all across Riverdale, triggered the quick response of emergency services. They came across David’s destroyed home and the severely damaged homes of his neighbors. Another person with serious injuries required medical transport.
John Streicker, M.P.A. for Mount Lorne-Southern Lakes, took time out of a parliamentary session to recognize David Gould for his influence in the Yukon, particularly in the placer mining industry. The late David is fondly recalled by Streicker, who calls him a “well-known member of the Yukon’s placer mining community” and a genuine Yukoner whose life was dedicated to helping others. Streicker uses this characterization of David since David spent his entire life serving others.
His friends said, “He was a true Yukoner who devoted his life to helping others. He gave his life for his passion. Streicker expressed his sorrow to the Placer community in a statement. “My deepest condolences go out to his friends and family,” he said. The mayor of Whitehorse, Laura Cabott, offered her sympathies to the victims’ loved ones during a meeting of the city council. Over a dozen houses had been demolished, she said, and the locals were understandably shaken up.
The Yukon Coroner’s Service, the Forensic Identification Service, the Whitehorse Fire Department, and the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit are all looking into David Gould’s death at the moment. Everyone is pooling their resources to figure out what led up to the blast. We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of David Gould and offer our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and the people of Yukon. We hope he will be remembered for the positive impact he had on the placer mining community and the selfless commitment he had to helping others.
