Benny Morris Death, Obituary – In loving memory, we bid farewell to Benny Morris, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend who passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023, at his home in Pembroke, Virginia, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 12, 1946, in Virginia to the late John and Elva Farmer Morris, Benny’s life was a tapestry of service, dedication, and an enduring love for the great outdoors.

Benny was a man of unwavering work ethic, a quality instilled in him during his distinguished service in the U.S. Navy. His commitment to his country was exemplified by his receipt of the National Defense Service Medal, an honor he wore with great pride. After his military service, Benny continued his devotion to service, working as a Building and Equipment Maintenance supervisor with Verizon. Colleagues fondly remember him as a dedicated team player, always ready to lend a helping hand.

His diverse interests were as vibrant as his personality. Benny was a gifted musician, proficient in playing multiple instruments, and his love for music brought joy to all who had the pleasure of listening. An avid outdoorsman, he reveled in hunting, gardening, and scenic rides through the mountains to revel in the beauty of nature. Benny was also a passionate sports enthusiast, frequently sharing his love for football and baseball with his children and grandchildren. His technical acumen extended to working on CB radios, a testament to his patience and dedication, qualities he instilled in his children and grandchildren.

Benny’s memory is cherished by his loving family, including his son, Randy Morris (Shelley Atkins) of Christiansburg, VA, his daughter, Deana Garcia (Moises) of Pembroke, and his daughters by heart, Amy Reynolds and Susan McDaniel, all of whom will deeply miss him. His sisters, Loretta Pifer of Dublin, VA, Barbara Hall of Snowville, VA, and Norma McPeak (Tom) of Dublin, VA, hold his memory close to their hearts.

Benny was a devoted grandfather to Mikaela Blankenship, Caleb Williams, Aidan Williams, Mia Garcia, and Naomi Garcia. His grandchildren by heart, Josh McDaniel, Matthew McDaniel, Niki Reynolds, and Ben Reynolds, will fondly recall their grandfather’s laughter and the invaluable life lessons he imparted.

Preceding Benny in death were his parents, John Morris and Elva Geneva Farmer Morris, his beloved wife, Linda Carol Morris, and his siblings, John Morris II, Hensel Morris, William Morgan Morris, Areta Agee, Phillip W. Morris, and Alethia “Gaynell” Ratcliffe.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who offered their support, especially his part-time caregiver, Crystal Foster-Coleman, Gentiva Hospice, Centerwell Home Health, and his special nurse, Brittney Parcell. A heartfelt thank you is reserved for Giles Community Hospital, particularly Amy Gray, his nurse practitioner, who granted Benny’s final wish of a Christmas tree in his home on November 6, 2023. The outpouring of love from the community has been a balm to their grieving hearts.

The family welcomes friends to a visitation on Monday, November 13, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted on the same day at 6:00 PM, led by Pastor Gary Poff, during which Military Honors will be presented, paying tribute to Benny’s dedicated service to his country and community.
