Art Eby Obituary, Death – Thursday, November 16, Arthur Andrew Eby, 87, died gently at home in Southampton. Loving husband to Christina, father to Sara, and a devoted grandfather to Ethan. His sister Marylou Gregson (Bert), brother-in-law Gordon Eagles (Linda), and nieces and nephews survive him.
Art was proud of his Southampton, Bruce County ancestry. Art earned his teaching credentials at Stratford Teachers College, his B.A. from Waterloo Lutheran University, and his Honour Specialist from Western Ontario after working for the CNR railway and training with the RCMP. Geographics teacher and department leader at Saugeen District Secondary School for most of his career.
He was a dedicated Southampton Rotary and Southampton United Church trustee. As a double Paul Harris fellow and an honorary lifetime member of the Southampton curling club, Art liked playing with the local Probus club in his elder years. Local politician Art became a councilor and reeve. The last mayor of Southampton, he valued his status until his death. Art appreciated many friends and neighbors’ sensitivity throughout his palliative care.
Please thank John and Kathryn Forsyth for their love and respect, Wayne McGrath for his visits and town updates, Barb Eagles for her help, and Jennifer and Riaz Suishansian for their continued support. Thank you, Dr. Chapman, and palliative care personnel.
Eagleson Funeral Home’s Southampton chapel will hold an 11 a.m. funeral on November 21, 2023. Southampton’s St. Paul’s Anglican Church’s Bevan Hall will offer refreshments and fellowship. Art’s memorial donations can benefit Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation or Southampton Rotary Club.
